The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay technology.
Video review technology will make its debut at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Athletes will gain the right to challenge certain rulings from the official, echoing the practice already in operation at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
This technology will be operational on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This step comes just a season following the All England Club introduced ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding role of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but they can request the official to review other situations, such as:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
- Potential hindrance end of a rally.
Notably, there is no limit on the amount of reviews a competitor can initiate.
Practical Application
A recent incident took place in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the video challenge against Jack Draper.
Draper conceded it was a tough situation for the umpire, but thought his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire viewed a video and ruled the player was responsible for hindrance, granting the rally to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not exclusive to Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open this year.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its tournaments.
Further Updates
A further change at The Championships 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves situations where fans have occasionally been unsure whether a ball was in or out.
In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have further announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
